the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Hazel Wilson has been appointed Welsh Lawn Bowls Co-ordinator for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.Hazel, who is the Welsh Women’s Bowling Association’s international and elite manager, will be working with the Commonwealth Games Council for Wales and Sport Wales in preparation for the 2014 games. Chief executive of the Commonwealth Games Council for Wales Chris Jenkins said: “I am delighted that Hazel has been selected as the Lawn Bowls co-ordinator.“The role, a new role, is designed to enhance the level and quality of support we give athletes as they prepare and compete at a games. By pulling together the best of men’s and ladies bowls I am confident that we can improve the support and performance of athletes.“Glasgow 2014 is seen as ‘home games’ with benefits for the team for example – it gives us the opportunity to train on the match greens more frequently. However, there are also additional pressures on athletes and these need to be managed. “I am looking forward to working with Hazel as a co-ordinator for the lawn bowls team for Glasgow as we prepare for the 2014 games.” A former British Isles Singles, Welsh singles, triples and fours winner, Hazel, a member of the Berriew Bowling Club in Mid Wales, said: “I am delighted to be appointed and look forward to working with the Chris and the Commonwealth Games Council for Wales and to providing the Welsh bowlers with the best preparation possible for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.”
